Driving from New York to Montreal for the Still Listening celebration in honor of Pauline Oliveros, I stopped a few times overnight to visit with friends.
It was interesting to figure out the degree of influence in terms of position (north/south vs east/west) on the sunset times—degrees of longitude vs latitude.
As it turns out, in Upstate NY, our position in the time zone (Longitude) is a more significant factor than how far North we are.
Anyway, I love how late the sun sets at this time of year and look forward to a few more weeks before we head back the other way.

Connection through mutual awareness and observation of the immutable as a reminder that some truths are not relative and that we are not alone is at the heart of dailybell. This year, I invite people to make personal, specific commitments to the project and to growing the community. Curate events, include a sun observance into an already existing public event, or research practices that incorporate ritual observance of the sun. AND please document and share your activity in some way.

Sunsets with pianos and bells
April 26, 2017. Sunset 7:55 PM.
San Francisco, CA (AM).
Waiting in line on closing night of the SF Green Film Festival at the Castro Theatre to see the premiere of Twelve Pianos. Part of the 2017 Green Film Festival, the film by Dean Mermell is “a documentary film about artist / musician Mauro ffortissimo, and some pianos that want to save the world”.

I thought my Mother was pretty old when she died
March 30, 2017. Sunrise 6:57 AM.
San Francisco (AM).
This would have been my mother’s 84th birthday. When I consider that this year, I will be the same age that she was when she died, I am shocked at how “not finished yet” I feel. I wonder if that’s usually true, regardless of how long you’ve been alive. Happy Birthday Mom. I miss you.

Jump into Spring
March 17, 2017. Sunrise and Sunset 7:18.
San Francisco (AM). Oakland (PM)
What I had thought was little bug I picked up in India was actually pneumonia- from which I am recovering (along with a broken rib for my coughing efforts). I’m feeling much better and am especially happy to mark and share this occasion. For those of us North of the equator, we’ve already had the pleasure of the day of equal light / equal darkness and are now tipped towards the light. Here’s this year’s Equilux offering from the San Francisco Bay Area.
