Connection through mutual awareness and observation of the immutable as a reminder that some truths are not relative and that we are not alone is at the heart of dailybell. This year, I invite people to make personal, specific commitments to the project and to growing the community. Curate events, include a sun observance into an already existing public event, or research practices that incorporate ritual observance of the sun. AND please document and share your activity in some way.

Most Joyful Noise - Garden of Memory Solstice Celebration 2017
June 21, 2017. Sunset 8:34 PM.
Chapel of the Chimes. Oakland, CA.
The most amazing dailybell solstice so far-- this year's sunset bell ringing is the 10th performance at the annual 'Garden of Memory' event at the Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland. The Garden of Memory is curated by Sarah Cahill and populated by 1000's of people who come to share the Solstice with fabulous performances in such a beautiful and unique place. Blessings and kudos to all who participated with the Cardew Choir in the 4 hour performance of Pauline Oliveros' 'Heart Chant'. The vocal sound and energy was so contagious it spread throughout the crowd. It was magical. Thank you all Many thanks to Jenny Holland, Miriam Jacobs, Liz Keim, Wendy Reid and Betsey Willson for their help talking with people and distributing invitations and bells. And thank you Jesse Budel for documenting the performance. (Anyone interested in the entire 20 minute experience can see his piece on vimeo)

Already shrinking
June 21, 2017. Sunrise 5:48 AM.
San Francisco, CA.
Typical summer weather. The day after the Solstice-- daylight already shrinking. But just a tiny bit.

3000 mile sunset repeat
June 19, 2017. Sunset 8:34 PM.
San Francisco, CA.
Norman was in New York, and he and I were checking in on the phone as the sun was setting. It was such a beautiful site, I just wanted to share it with him. So I snapped the photo and sent it along right away. Two sunsets for him.

light late
Flying to Dublin for the Sound Check Exhibition at the Science Gallery at Trinity College where my old Giant Music Box will reside for the next few months.
June 6. Sunset 8:15 PM - somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean, followed by Sunrise on June 7 four hours later just before landfall, where the sun rose at 4:59 AM. Sometimes I can’t figure it out and just sit back and enjoy being lost. No documentation...
Landed
June 7, 2017. Sunset 9:49 PM.
Dublin, Ireland.
So LATE! Farthest north I’ve been so far this year — Anyone north of here? What time does the sun set?

For IONE and Pauline
7 June 17 sunset La Selva Beach, CA. 8:25 PM
We decided that this sunset sounding on Wed. 7 June was the better video to send. It's just Una Nakamura, Suzanne Parkhurst, and me in honor of Ione and Pauline. It was recorded at La Selva Beach, CA (near Aptos). Love, Nancy
